The challenge
An existing house that was not worth keeping. The lot was. The work was to demolish it and build a Mediterranean / Italian custom home that would live as a house — not a theme applied to a leftover plan.
The vision
Four thousand seven hundred square feet under roof, three thousand four hundred under air. Four bedrooms, an office, living and dining, a chef's kitchen with a butler's pantry — fridge and sink — a proper laundry and mudroom, and a foyer with groin vaults: the kind you walk in Italy, not the kind you order from a catalog.
The strategy
New construction after demolition. Custom cabinets. Marble tile throughout. French white oak hardwood. The rooms named above, finished as one house, not a stack of packages.
The construction
The existing home came down. The new house is Mediterranean / Italian in character: 4,700 square feet under roof, 3,400 under air. Custom cabinets. Marble tile. French white oak floors. Chef's kitchen with a butler's pantry (refrigerator and sink). Spacious laundry and mudroom. Four bedrooms, office, living, dining. The foyer is groin-vaulted — a museum room in Italy, built here.
The result
The house is in finishing. Photographs will be published when the work is ready to be seen — not before, and not with a stand-in.
